Daily Doodle #17: Quick Portraits #4 – Rona Kenan

This one was done from a photo that was taken from a weird angle. I spent too much time on it already, and decided to upload it anyway. This is Rona Kenan, one of the best Israeli rock singer-songwriters of recent years.

Daily Doodle #16: Quick Portraits #3 – Dexter

One of my best, if I might say so. Took me 30 minutes, more or less.

Daily Doodle #15: Quick Portraits #2 – Firefly

Yesterday I did not present you with a doodle, so to make up for it, here’s a giant doodle with lots of portraits, all taken from Firefly, one of the best sci-fi shows ever.

Daily Doodle #14: Quick Portraits #1

This theme involves really quick portraits, no more than an hour total. And today’s doodle there’s no need to introduce.

Daily Doodle #13: Ancient Synagogues #2

Today’s ancient synagogue is the one from Capernaum (or Kfar Nahum כפר נחום, in Hebrew). It was built in the 4th century A.D, and it has the shape of a basilike: it is an elongated square and has the elements of a common church (that is of course a very short description).

Daily Doodle #12: Ancient Synagogues #1

Drawing soldiers from classical periods turned more difficult than I thought. They require some research for finding references, and since I did not want to copy (too much) other people’s work, I figured I’d  better neglect this theme for a later time. Still, not wanting to stray too far from this fascinating cultural and historical period, I found out a collections of articles on Wikipedia about ancient synagogues, with lots of pictures. So today I start this theme and hopefully it will be easier and faster.

So the first synagogue I sketched is located in Bar’am National Park. It is dated to the Talmudic period, which was from about 4-6th century A.D. This doodle took me about 30 minutes to complete.

Daily Doodle #11: Ancient Soldiers #2

Today I drew the hetairoi, which was the elite cavalry of ancient Greece, especially of the Makedonian Army.

Daily Doodle #10: Ancient Soldiers #1

I know, last theme lasted only two doodles, but I just really wanted to start drawing the soldiers. Anyway, today’s the Greek hoplite. The hoplites, named after their shield (hopla, in Greek), were the middle-class soldiers in the city-states in ancient Greek. They had to buy their own gear, which included a shield, spear, helmet and sometimes armor.

Daily Doodle #9: Ancient Fashion #2

And today I sketched the chlamys – an ancient Greek piece of garment, which is basically a square piece of sheet worn over the shoulders. It is tied over the right shoulder using a fibula (ancient brooch). The chlamys is usually worn by soldiers or messengers.
